Your R came with sport springs, about 1 inch lower than other 850's. The wagons have Nivomats in the rear.

Check the front springs, they may have been altered or replaced with junk.

Evidence of leaks from the struts?

Springs that have been cut?

My '96 855R had self adjusting shocks in the rear - perhaps the PO lowered the front and then found that they could not lower the rear!

For instance - I purchased a B16 engine with transmission - when we loaded it in to the car, it dropped 3 inches in the rear - within 1/2 mile the car was level agin.
