I removed the axle with the support bearing cap still attached. Hopefully that was the best way to go. The goal is to just change the cv boots before they fail. Should I be concerned about the 'rusted on cap' ? That's why stuff sticks - rust takes up space. The photo

So long as there are steel parts and dirt, there will be rust. It actually looks pretty good...
