Fabric on windshield side-posts detaching S60 2007

The windshield side-posts came covered with a fabric similar to the ceiling lining, but it is starting to peel back and separate from the post.

How would a professional upholstery person reattach this cloth covering? Any type of glue would likely bleed through the fabric. The substrate under the fabric looks like some kind of textured foam (yellow), or some spray-coating on the metal.

I see the XC70 comes with a plastic cover piece for these roof support posts. I wonder if they would fit the S60? Means of attachment?

Any ideas?

My attempts to reglue the fabric did not last more than a few months.

The best solution to this problem is to go to the junkyard, and get the non-fabric version of this part. There is a good You Tube showing how to remove these A-pillar trim pieces. You pull at the top to separate trim from the pillar, exposing the black tether (loop). Twist its black plastic anchor 90 degrees and pull it out. Then slide trim piece upward until freed. The tether is a safety feature -- in a crash, it will not go flying.

I found a very good You Tube showing how easy it is to remove the A-pillar trim pieces without breaking the collision safety restraint strap:

Removed, you can re-fasten the fabric. I chose to use iron-on interfacing instead of glue. Whatever you use, strip away the old (dark yellow) adhesive first, to get a good sticky.

When reinstalling the trim piece, make sure to underlap the trim piece under the black door gasket.

There is a 3M fabric glue, spray can, suitable for high heat. I got a can from a fabric store. It doesn't bleed. Similar to contact cement for application.

The A pillar cover can be pulled off, but I would wait until the outside temp is reasonably warm. Cover the part of the A pillar that you don't want to remove, peel back the cloth, and lightly spray both the cloth and the pillar. Reattach cloth. Wait about 20-30 minutes and re-install.

Klaus - Does the backing piece the fabric is glued to come off? It would be easier to repair off-vehicle.

Yes the A pillar cover comes off. you pull from the top, Plastic pry tools are worth their weight. Recovering happens outside the vehicle.

"I removed plastic pieces per Google results (takes a sharp pull). Cleaned and removed small scuff stains with Resolve. Fabric only partially pulled up (less than half) failed area. I covered the still stuck portions with blue tape for glue protection. -Sprayed twice for good tack. Stretched and adhered as best as possible (if not completely even along edge that's ok). IF Glue soaks through a bit, it is removable /soluble with Bestine rubber cement thinner. Mine has not yellowed, A good adhesive is: [copy and paste]"

If you remove the foam, it will look lumpy. Leave it, the 3M glue will stick to the foam. Don't press the glued section too hard.

      Here it is: https://www.brickboard.com/AWD/volvo/1648550/V70-XC70/pillar_trim_fabric.html
Couple things: the pillar trim is plastic and separates from the top first. Stretching the fabric is not crucial, but getting the edge near the glass adhered evenly and well makes the job more perfect. My job has held up 6 months without any problems. Some people with no stomach for this repair find used plastic replacements, but cloth is much nicer. G-luck
