Oil seepage? V70-XC70

2003 v70 2.4t is seeping oil somewhere I can't pinpoint.. comes from the passenger side of the engine.. I'm wondering if perhaps the pcv system needs attention but to be honest, I can't see it so I am unable to tell if that's where it's coming from.. it's not a major leak but it's dripping enough to leave a few small spots on the garage floor. Any good guesses at what I need to be looking for?

Take off the timing belt cover and take a look at the two cams, the seals do tend to leak.

Oil seepage? V70-XC70

Well, I did the timing belt and water pump job not long ago and was able to view the seals and it wasn't them. Seems to me to be coming from the small tube that comes out of the oil fill opening. I replaced the cap seal and no change...that's why I suspect pcv but I dunno.. I'm not that good with these newer Volvo's...

That large vacuum line goes from the top of the engine to the PCV/oil separator box. It is fairly easy to replace even with the manifold left on the engine. It should pull off the black box (slide your arm under the manifold [cold engine!] and use a screwdriver to pry it upwards). Put new screw clamp about 1.5 inches from the bottom of the new hose, slide hose onto black box, slide clamp into position and snug clamp. Then do the top.

Do a glove test on the oil filler cap AFTER replacing the hose - engine warm.

Rubber gloves test? I'm assuming you strech a glove over the oil filler and what happens next?

Glove blows up= bad
Glove sucks in = good
My glove...just stays there and does neither. I suppose it's time to do my PCV.

"...Seems to me to be coming from the small tube that comes out of the oil fill opening..."

That tube tends to split open with old age. If you follow it down between the intake manifold runners you may see it torn just above the oil separator box. If it is torn, besides possibly dripping some oil, you won't be able to accurately detect whether your PCV system is drawing vacuum on the crankcase or not. If it's still sound you can perform a rubber glove test on the oil filler port in order to see if the PCV system is working.

Front camshaft seal? Maybe the PCV but since they are in the front I doubt it unless it is blowing over that way.

How is your valve cover gasket? Easy to check that.

Will I buy another Volvo??? We'll see....
