Simons dual exhaust V70-XC70 2000

Hello Folks,

I need a new muffler for the 2000 v70xc... The single OEM isn't cheap.
So I started looking around... I like the Simons dual exhaust for the awd 855. really nice quality. I don't know how it would proform on the V70xc however.

My next thought was buying two mufflers that are as good, better- or good enough as the Simons; and having them welded on. Borsal I'm told is good, but I have no first hand knowledge. I'm looking at spending $300 for the Simons setup... What other options are out there at a better price point.
Thanks,
g

Volvo's modern exhaust systems are expensive, but they do last.

We had a '96 855R that never needed a system for 17 years.

Our '95 854 had its system break at 16 years old because the rear hangar rusted away.

Our '95 855 never needed a system up to 17 years old.

I really have no long term experience with newer models, our '08 XC70 has had no exhaust issues yet.

I am curious, how did your system fail?

The 850’s and early V70/XC's had stainless steel exhausts. Don’t know about the newer Volvos. When I sold my 95 855 GLT last fall it had its all original exhaust except for the rear hanger - 22 years old and over 250k!

GD: FWIW - Put Bosal on my 240. Not as good as OEM but worked fine.

Hello,

I didn't think it was too bad... There were a few weak spots in the muffler itself. Several shops said I couldn't pass inspection without a new muffler. I took it to a guy who let me slide if I promise to get a muffler sooner than later.

Cheers,
gd

The above is $201 from JC Whitney. You might want new rubber hangers and a clamp to the exhaust pipe behind the rear wheel. Oh, how are your tail pipe extensions?

I suggest, what ever you get, to first paint the muffler flat black (high heat) to keep the rust away. Besides, the shiny mufflers don't look good.

Keeping it running is better than buying new

Thanks Klaus!

After look at several sites I realized the 855 awd and my xc share the same exhaust! Seems like a great fit! Hope to get more pep too!

Cheers,

gd
