check engine light on S80

Engine check light came on in S80 2002 6 cylinder 4 dr sedan, 142k miles

Please advise if any OBD tool will read codes and where can i get the code readout explanations?

    located a OBDll tester and code book. car still runs great gets 27mpg

      only one code PO456 EVAP emission control system, leak very small

      I recall filling up with gas to overflow on a very hot day. The engine check light came sometime afterwards. great car only replaced one part in 16 years, alternator froze, in 16 years except tires, battery and wipers. Leo

        Did you try clearing the code and see if it returns?

          The check engine light went blank and after a week now has not reappeared.

            After clearing check engine light in late October the same code reappeared a month and 500 miles later 11/20/18. Dont notice any lose of performance of engine so im just having the code reader handy. thanks for any help, Leo

    Assuming it’s still running OK, go by one of the chain auto parts stores and have them read out the codes/descriptions for you and come back here to share with all.
