what to save from a '93 850 sedan 850

I'm scrapping a 5/93 850 GLT sedan. What should I save? Thanks, Mike T.

What is the condition of the front seats?

The driver's seat is often in demand. Swap the passenger's seat bottom skin with a worn driver's bottom seat skin?

things that do not need a lot of space - easy to remove

PNP switch, other electrical switches -knobs, tail lights, and headlights as suggested, radiator overflow bottle, radio, fuses, relays, sunroof and switch, electrical part of ignition switch, pan under engine, electric antenna, wiper arms, electric fan,

The questions:

What other Volvos do you have or expect to get?
How much room do you have, and how much time to strip it?
Why would you keep any of it (what would you do with the parts)?

When I was a teenager, Dad and I spent a couple of weekends stripping usable parts off the Vauxhall sedan that my brother had brought home, intending to build his own sports car (this being back in the day when you could actually do that and register the resulting car-like object). Dad lost patience after about a year of it taking up garage space, so we stripped it before the junkyard towed it away.

When my brother and I cleared out the garage after our parents moved out in their 90s, there were the parts, carefully organized in the little paper bags we used.

But some people do, in fact, find uses for parts; and I have salvaged parts from cars and machines and then used them later. Finding that balance point - it might be useful/hey, it was useful! - is often a lifelong learning experience.

We need more information. Do you presently own another 850? What are your plans for the parts?

I'm a mechanic and I specialize in RWD Volvos [and English motorcycles]. I stock- pile used parts but I don't have any 850 customers at the moment. I understand the bumpers, headlights and fillers and the 4-lug wheels are unique to the '93.

Transmission - The 93 and early 94 auto trannies are different than the rest and are prone to early failure. Ask me how I know this...:) The manual trannies are bulletproof but probably worth keeping too.

Radiator, if in good shape, is also worth keeping. The radiators in my 95 and 93 both died. That is another 850 part that probably won’t have a long life. Keeping the electronics is a good idea too. Starter, alternator, coil, power stage etc. That’s all I’ve got for now.
