Hood release cable broken. Yikes! V70-XC70 2007

The hood release cable on my '07 XC70 broke off at the handle (inside the car). I can open the hood using vise grips, but I'd like a more permanent solution. Is this a DIY for a person of medium skill? Would you just recommend using the current vise-grip method?

    Need to remove bumper cover, headlight mounting bolts, upper metal bracket that covers release mechanisms. I added 2 emergency release cables on my 2004 V70. Required bicycle cable, bicycle cable sheath, & cable tie to tie the ends to the inside of the grille (able to reach with finger)so I didn't have to snake the cable to the cabin. I don't know what obstructions there are to getting into the cabin, but at this point you should be able to either use a new cable or other snake, pulled into the cabin by the old cable, to make the repair.
