plastic engine cover insulating foam V70-XC70 2012

wondering what people have done when the foam piece of the black engine cover has started to wear out, fall apart, disintegrate over time?
Has anyone found a replacement for it? If so, what?
Thanks.

I haven't done a thing, it's the mice that have taken to removing the foam and using it, along with the usual leaves and insulation, to fill that space with their nests...

Mice don't like peppermint oil. Just 1 drop should keep them out.

Ha! I wasn't thinking about finding a solution to that problem, but thank you.
Don't have any peppermint oil, I wonder if lavender oil will do the trick...

Thanks and have an enjoyable day,
Will

Peppermint Altoids are made from real peppermint oil. Grab a tin of them at the store and poke a bunch of holes through the tin so it can emit the aroma. I’ve been told it irritates their respiratory system so they stay away.

In the garage and basement we started using Fresh Cab about 10 years ago. Haven’t had any problem with mice in those area since. Ace Hardware carries Fresh cab if you don’t have a Tractor Supply nearby.

find this at your local Tractor Supply:

Fresh Cab
Botanical Rodent Repellent
4 pouches to a box

It comes recommended to me from the guys who own classic oldies and muscle cars.

I have been using it for years now and the critters stay away from the engine compartment.

I'm sorry to have derailed your thread, Bob. But I am happy to have gotten some ideas to keep the mice away from my car (and home!). I will take your suggestion for Fresh Cab. I hate to kill them in traps.

Thank you!

you could scrape and clean off all of the old foam and glue. Then press this stuff on and trim to fit:

https://www.amazon.com/Noico-Insulation-Self-Adhesive-Deadening-Material/dp/B07TKXMPH7/ref=sr_1_101?dchild=1&keywords=foam+with+adhesive+backing&qid=1596673465&sr=8-101

Not cheap at $45, but probably better than crumbly foam.
