2001 S80 transmission question S80

I am looking at a 2001 S80 for sale at six hundred Canadian. Here is a quote on its transmission troubles.

-Vehicle does not go forward in Drive, engine will just rev and not seem to engage. Manumatic/Tiptronic, functions through 1st 2nd and 3rd gear. (or would require a tow)

Is this fixable at a reasonable cost? I take it the car will run using the alternative manual semi-automatic function but will not move under full automatic.

I can't fix an automatic transmission myself so I would have to get the fix done somewhere locally.

Hiring some shop to repair it would cost around $6000CDN. Finding a 'good' used 5 speed automatic would cost around $1200CDN just for labor to do the swap, just make sure the used tranny is good for at least 1 year.

Personally, I would sell the car for parts. Look around for something much newer and more reliable.
