TIRE SIZE - V70 T5 WAGON - 17' Rims V70-XC70

2002 Volvo V70 T5 - Wagon

What is proper tire size to avoid any 'oversize' rubbing on suspension/wheel wells

I hear TOYO Celcius is a great all year tire esp in snow

According to the specs, you need 235/45/17. If you want a tire that works well in snow, you will want to opt for a severe snow service tire - one that has a mountain badge imprinted on the side of the tire. These are all season tires and do not wear as fast as a snow tire so they can be left on the car all year. More expensive than your typical tire.

I would not use chains on 17" rims, the clearance is too tight.

If you have a garage, consider looking for a set of 16" rims and get 100% snow tires. The narrower width of the tire will make it handle better in snow.

Keeping it running is better than buying new

Some cars with larger rims and rotors won’t accept a smaller rim without running into rim/caliper interference. I don’t know if that would be an issue in this instance or not but you might want to try the smaller rim on both a front and rear position before investing in all four rims and new tires.

        Hi,

I was just reading over this thread to have something to do.

I too was thinking about the use of smaller rims for chain clearance if needed.

The next thought turn into or towards knowing that the rear calipers are smaller on all vehicles by nature than the front ones!

One will have to be careful to keep the both rims made of the same size on one axle, straight across.
AWD is a challenge I’ll bet!
So if you could do all that, it would have to next to impossible to get the rims with the same fashionable looks knowing how exclusive those things are sold to car manufacturers.

I have been thinking that in order to buy a newer car today, you had better like being treated with some Texan ways!
Because, After a short time the “glimmer” in the eyes leaves and you will say you got “Steered!”

It’s like another thread about the valve stem tire pressure sensor on 2014-2016 costing $113 each!
You know the dealers and Volvo didn’t pay that for them within any production numbers amounts!

Same for tires ... big scam ... all for looks, as you can see dusty rims before you see the sides of the vehicle!

I can see if a tire is getting low on pressure and not 42 lbs plus needed!
Love my lower riding 240’s with softer tires for less money!
Back I go to that tab!

        Thanks for reading anyways!

        Phil

This is a useful chart. 205/50/17 would give you better snow traction.

      Apologies for the long link.

Thanks have had a look - do you think the narrower tire will expose the rim to more damage from scrubbing curbs when parking
