15 years ago my son put massive dent in fender. Camber off since then? 850 1995

Best i can tell he was backing up and turning, misjudged and wacked the fender in just behind the bumper as he swung into a TREE. I bet he shifted the subframe based on bad camber of possibly opposite angles left vs right.

It took me many years to notice the tire wear as I don't drive much. Hood still opens and a extra big door gap, but a new camber showed up.

Camber can be fixed by some off set bolts for the struts. Holes in struts might have to enlarged. I saw some volvo part numbers to adjust camber but i think they are no longer available as I probably did a search 5 years ago. Moog makes some kits for this, some youtube videos say Moog may not have the highest quality parts anymore. I think at one time they made decent quality.

So I'm just fishing for a tip here. Sometimes a tip can get me off of my boat of indecision which can paralyze me from making a repair.

I guess if i knew of a good shop i could have them start by removing the bolts for the subframe, try new bolts, try to shift the subframe. If not maybe 5% of the alignment shops around might deal with camber. Most i think just do toe , camber and caster are off limits.

I wonder what parts would be the first to bend in such a crash. I have replaced most components as they just wore out. I even replaced the strut on that side as it looked bent, it was just an illusion.

I love this! 15 years before a proper diagnosis.

If your son hit a tree while backing and just moved the fender forward, along with the bumper cover, I doubt he did any structural damage. The sub frame is not involved.

If he hit the wheel, he could have bent the steering arm. An alignment shop could correct this, or tell you that it needs to be replaced. The rest of the steering components are quite robust!

He pushed the fender in towards the center line of car 850 1995

He pushed the fender in towards the center line of car. Looks like the fender got t-boned before the front tire. Moving steel inboard did pull the rear edge of the fender forward. 1/2 inch gap to the front edge of the door.

The only clear indication of anything subframe is a big subframe washer has it's edge bent. I have a vague memory of an aluminum front bumper support having a crack in it.

I'm a fan of replacing bolts if the heads start to show any rusting. I wouldn't mind getting a bunch of front sub-frame bolts. Online parts sellers no longer seem to show bolts, they just like to sell the big parts like A-arms. My Volvo dealer is so bad now that they just have a drive in for service. No place to even park and walk into the parts department. They like to charge 40% over list price too.
