A/C clutch won't disengaga V70-XC70

2002 V70-T5

Hear the compressor kick in and out - but clutch keeps spinning. Won't disengage. Ideas - electical or mechanical issue

Cooling is fair.

When the engine and AC are shut off can you measure a gap in the clutch? As I recall you want a gap of about .015-.020”.

OK - I have heard about the gap. Thought it was needed to 'engage' clutch with the magnet - mine is engaged all the time - will not release and keeps spinning all the time. Would the gap contribute to this as well?

Surprising. There must be a gap, preferably .020

But any 'gap' should be enough for the clutch to disengage. That is the noise you hear - click/clack.

Records from previous owner, when system diagnosed said - suspect TXH leaking, possible short in compressor.

Possible to simply repair or are major replacement parts needed? Thanks

I have no idea what a TXH is. If the compressor clicks on/off, that sounds good to me.

You need to get a pressure gauge, hook it up to the low side port, and see if the pressure fluctuates between clicks. If the reading is always low, add a can of R134a

You also need to check the clutch gap, easily done with the engine off.

Thanks I will do that. The TXH is a Thermal Expansion Valve before the evaporator - inexpensive part.
Will check the gap too.
