MAF function on turbo?

2007 XC70 184,000
My BMW 2.5 NA had g/s of 3.8-4.2 (per jfoj) my XC 70 is in that range @ idle in park however under a hard pull the XC70 registered well over 155 g/s. Being new to turbo is this normal? I swapped in another MAF and experienced similar readings!

I searched and found that possibly leak at the turbo might be the cause?

Could this be because those with NA engines were in the range of mid 20's g/s as was my Bimmer!?

MAF function on turbo?

I’m no turbo expert, but I think Klaus is correct. I’ve never heard of a turbo leak. On my second turbo now. My old 2002 VW Passat 1.8T had 1 turbo hose leak in 242,000 miles. Not bad! Think Volvo turbos are equally robust.

Will I buy another Volvo??? We'll see....

MAF function on turbo?

What is a g/s and jfoj??

If the g/s = gallons of air per second, then it appears to be correct. The XC70 has a small turbo which reaches full boost at around 1500 rpm. While turbos seldom leak, the inter cooler will as may some of the piping connections.

What is G/S and jfoj

First of all it's grams/second and jfoj posted many, many comments on E46 Fanatics, I found those valuable when I was a BMW owner.

There is much I don't know about the DOHC cam Volvo's so I am looking for guidance.

My Volvo experience dates back to my previous Volvo's; 245,122 and 745 turbo.

What is G/S and jfoj

Volvo likes to keep things simple, such as using a vacuum/pressure gauge to determine amount of air going to the intake manifold. The MAF and MAP work together to tell the computer what the gas/air ratio should be, and the forward O2 sensor is the final judge in the correct mixture.

If you can hook up vacuum line and gauge, 1995 and earlier come with one in the instrument cluster, as did the 740T, Then you can get the proper boost level noted. A good low pressure turbo will be around 12-13psi a full boost.
