Which Brake Position Sensor - the one that the photos match or the one listed to fit? V70-XC70 2007

All the parts stores on line say that #31687032 fits my 2007 XC70 BUT the photos show the connector on the side, while the connector on mine is on the end.

The photos show #944116 that has the connector on the end just like my old part, BUT the parts stores say it does not fit my car.

So should I buy the part that is the same as mine in the photos or the one that is listed to fit (even though the connector is in the wrong place and may or may not connect)?

From a member of Britain's Volvo club:

"Before you change the sensor , just try unplugging the wiring from it and plugging it back in do this several times, you may find it will work fine after you do this because it resistance based measurement and if you have a poor connection on the plug it will put the sensor out of range.
I discovered this by accident when I was looking to replace my sensor needed to look at number of pins in the plug as there are two types for my car and when I plugged it back in it worked for a few days before going faulty again , so I just repeated the action several times and now its been working fine for months."

I would suggest a dab of di-electric grease while you are at it.

Keeping it running is better than buying new

I agree 100% with this. I had problems with my cruise control and vida said the brake position sensor. I unplugged it, plugged it back in and it worked. I then applied some deoxit for good measure and its was good for a year. Repeated, this again and its more than a year and no more problems. Before I did this I looked into replaced it and found the same part number discrepancy the OP speaks of. If I recall I think I concluded the older units had the connector on the end and newer ones had the connector on the side. I suspect both would work but can't say for sure

FYI -- Which Brake Position Sensor - the one that the photos match or the one listed to fit? V70-XC70 2007

After pulling out the part three times and cleaning and re-soldering,I finally ordered a new part. I went with the one everyone said would fit despite the fact that the connector was in a different place. It fit just fine and fixed my problem.

You could pull yours out and get the part number off of it.

What part stores are you asking about it? The big national chain stores are not always accurate in their cataloguing of Volvo parts.

All the usual stores including the volvo dealers.

When I googled the part number from the old part, all I get are offerings for used ones on ebay.

It’s not at all uncommon for Volvo to retire a part number and supersede it with a new part number, the reasons for which can vary. Generally though the dealers’ web stores will list the new number along with a list of all the old numbers that it replaces. I’ve seen parts listed with four or five older part numbers that it supersedes.
