Daughter just called from work: When she started up her C70, the infotainment display (it is NOT a Sensus system) was black, nothing, like the car was off. When she went to back out of her parking space, the car felt funny, like it was dragging or something, she was barely a foot out of the parking space, so she pulled back in. Then she noticed the fuel gauge showed empty, the needle had not moved. It should have been between 3/4 and full. She turned the car off, then restarted it, and everything was ok. This has never happened in the 3 years we have had the car. Does anyone know what it could be, if it is a sign of impending doom, if it is nothing to worry about, or what? Is the car going to suddenly become unreliable? We live out in the country about 30 miles from her work, so that is an important consideration.

Luckily, she is off next week for spring break (teacher), do you think we have that long before it all goes bad, or is it likely a single, random glitch?

Thanks for all of your help over the many years since I joined this forum, back in the early 2000's.

Note about my signature, below: the 745, and the 940 are parked and no longer used at all, and Draco was totaled in 2019. Replaced by the new, Flaminco Red 2013 C70.

FWIW: Called the Volvo dealer, service manager said that if there were no check engine lights (there were none) and everything worked right after re-start, it was not serious. He said something about "airwaves," and that it happens rarely, and you just need to restart the car, like re-setting a computer. If there were a real problem, he says, the check engine light would be on.

Anyone care to comment on that?

Could the battery be low and/or in need of replacing? Sometimes that will affect electronics. The comment from your dealer sounds like a brush-off.

Actually, I kind of liked the service advisor's advice. Better than "drive it here and leave it with us for a month and we will se if we can recreate the problem."

I also like the battery question. If the voltage is too low, strange things happen. You might want to have your daughter drive to an auto parts store and have them check the battery and load test the alternator.
Because the car is driven a lot, the battery should be good.

There are times when the key could be at fault.

Keeping it running is better than buying new
