1997 855 T5 SRS Light On 850

Driver side seatbelt retractor failed. Repaced retractor with a boneyard unit. Retractor works great, but SRS light is on. Indy Volvo shop told me they could not reset the SRS light, as the seatbelt retractor and SRS sensor had to be a match from the same vehicle???

Maybe I need to revisit the boneyard and get another retractor plus the sensor? If so, where is the sensor that I need to get?

Thank you

I find that hard to believe. The retractor has no memory, just a mechanical spring.

There is a pyrotechnic device that is used to retract the seat belt when frontal collision is imminent. You shouldn't have messed with that.

Something else turned on the SRS light. You need to find out what the error code is and 'repair' that.

Thanks for your insightful reply Klaus. I could have done without the first sentence.

The events I described are accurate. The only item I didn't address is the small connector on the retractor. The SRS light did not illuminate until after the boneyard retractor was installed.

Anybody else??

Thanks

You worked on the SRS system without disconnecting the battery first?

Find someone to turn off the light...

I always disconnect the battery prior to any electrical work. Having an airbag deploy would make for a very bad day....
