My machinist dismantled the thermostat housing on my 2006 xc70. I can get the housing-to-head gasket easily but the other one that lives between the two shells of the housing is not readily available. I am told to buy a complete new thermostat by Volvo. I will try to include a picture. It is gasket B I seek. Are these available anywhere? It is a metal gasket.

    It’s hard to tell from the photo, but if the gasket is just plain ‘ol gasket material you can get a piece at the auto parts store and cut out a new gasket.

      Hi Chris,

      Oh but that it was that easy. The gasket is made of metal of some sort. Looks a bit like aluminum but I am not sure.

      It is subject to the heat of the engine head and the coolant and I assume Volvo had a reason for picking this type of gasket. But the other head-to-housing gasket is a simple paper type.

      I have some high temp gasket cement and I will probably go with the old gasket and a healthy dose of cement.
