I'm in the middle of a front brake job on my '98 V70 FWD (Base). One of the bolts for the brake hangar got rounded; I can't get it off, and so I can't get the rotor off. I need to either get this bolt off or find a way to replace the rotor without taking off the brake hangar/bracket. Any thoughts? Thank you

Hi Kevin, I hope you found a way to extract that bolt but if not, I'll offer that I had great success removing a rounded off engine mount bolt in my S40 with an "Irwin Bolt-Grip" socket. They're sockets, came in a set of 5 in various metric sizes. Really saved my butt.
I was even able to put the same bolt back in! :-D

In the end, a friend recommended a solution that worked. I bought a bolt extractor set for about $30 from Harbor Freight and got the rounded bolt off. Bought a new bold from FCP Euro. Problem solved, and new tools!

Thanks for the wrap-up success report about your hassle there.
I didn't see a photo of the HF kit you got but assume it's similar to a Craftsman kit I got and have yet to use (3/8 drive extractors)
Did the bolt come out without heat?

Is that a hex bolt?
If so, use mystery oil, heat with MAPP gas, and try vise grips

Thank you. Is mystery oil preferable to, say PB blaster? I have both....

People vouch for both, I like MMO.
After you heat, it put a little MMO on the thread and
see if it turns, if not, apply more heat and try again.

Heat is your friend for getting stuff apart.

Use some Never-Seez on the bolts on re-assembly so you avoid this
misery next time.
