PCV system S40-V40 2007

2007 S40, non turbo, 191,000 miles.

Wife complained of fumes in the cabin, found the hose that connects to the oil filter housing and the top of the engine was torn. Car was bought used, unsure if the PCV system had ever been serviced. Replaced the oil filter housing and hoses.
The engine ports did not seem to be clogged, however there is still pressure at the oil fill cap and smoke coming from the dip stick tube after OFH replacement. Is my next step to drop the oil pan and identify clogs there or is there a process before that?

Thanks
Mike

Did you also replace the oil trap also known as the breather box? Clogged breather boxes have been issue for Volvos since at least the 240 days. Make sure the hose going into the breather box is clear too.

Well, this was educational for me. Didn’t know that the newer 5 cylinder engines have a different PCV than the earlier models. So I read up on it a bit. Just a few thoughts. Does your engine have an EGR valve? If so, was it in the kit? Clogged EGR valves can be an issue in earlier 5 cylinder cars. One more thought. Are there any vacuum lines or hoses that are connected to the PCV system but weren’t included in the oil filter housing kit?
