Is the rheostat switch illuminated on the 850? 850 1996

Hello All,

I am almost embarrassed to ask this question: Is the rheostat switch illuminated at night on the 1996 850 GLT model? I've owned this Volvo for over 20 years, and this evening I went to check to make sure the rheostat switch was on all the way to illuminate the dashboard. I couldn't find the switch until I turned on the dome light. The switch is to the left of the steering wheel column just above switch that turns on the fog light in the rear.

I think the rheostat switch is illuminated, but I can't remember for sure. I have this recollection it was illuminated at night when you turned the headlights on.

I would appreciate anyone's response who knows for sure. Thanks!

Hugh

Yes. My 1993 was, until it burned out four years ago. Not worth the effort to replace.

      David,

To replace the burned out bulb for the rheostat, you have to pop out the fog light switch underneath it and then pop out the rheostat lever switch itself and replace the bulb within it?

Yes, I think so. I just decided to live with it since those plastic parts are so brittle with age. Figured I would break something else trying to fix it. Make sure you adjust brightness below maximum, so the dash lights don't burn out prematurely.
