3.2 na vs. t6 V70-XC70

I am looking to purchase a used P3 XC70 and am trying to determine whether paying extra for a T6 model is worthwhile. I do most of my work and have owned many Volvos. This would be my first venture into the newer models. Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

3.2 na vs. t6 V70-XC70

In 2012 we were purchasing a new XC 70

We were able to drive a T6 and a 3.2 NA, each for a day.

The T6 was FAST ( My previous car was a '96 855R, that was fast also ) Because I was not used to it, I kept it in second gear to drove around parking lots.

The only thing that we did not like about the T^ was that it had almost no engine braking when you let off the gas because the transmission shifted UP when you let off the gas.

The first time my wife ( AKA the late braker ) went to take a highway exit, she almost ran off the exit!

I was 66 at the time, and she was 63, I could not visualize us driving a T6 at age 76 and 73 like now.

When you get on it, the 3.2 NA goes pretty good - much, much better than our NA 850s

The rest of the story - The dealer had a two wheel drive, base XC 70 that they had for a while - we were able to buy it new for $26,500 less a $1000 customer loyalty bonus and three months payments deduction of $900

$24,600 for a new Volvo XC 70 with a five year wear and tear warranty! We bought a 2008 XC 70 loaded for 14K to drive in the winter.

In my opinion, If you like to drive GO, BRAKE, GO, BRAKE, you will love the T6

Thanks for all the advice. I found a 2010 T6 for sale with low miles at a local volvo dealership and will be picking it up tomorrow.

3.2 na vs. t6 V70-XC70

I own a 2011 xc70 with a t6 engine. It has been the best and most powerful engine on any volvo that i have owned. This includes 6 other volvo models - only one of which has a turbo. This car can be loaded with passengers or supplies and still easily pass cars going up a hill on the interstate.

There is a lot to like about the p3 generation of volvo xc70 wagons.

The engine now has about 125k miles on it and i have to add a quart of oil every 2500 mile or so. Other than that, i have had no problems with it.

I recall hearing some less than favorable reviews on the 3.2L engine but don't remember specifics.

I have not owned a P3 but a friend of mine owns a 2011 XC 70 T6 and I’ve had the opportunity to drive it quite a bit including long highway trips. It is a terrific long distance cruiser with comfortable seats and ride. I totally agree with what Wally660 said. Fastest Volvo I’ve ever driven! Great engine with lots of torque under all conditions.

Regarding the NA engines the only thing I’ve heard is they are somewhat underpowered. Understandable as it is a heavy vehicle.

Will I buy another Volvo??? We'll see....
