Valve cover?? V70-XC70 2012

Is there an actual valve cover gasket on this engine?
I have a 2012 Volvo XC70 T6 AWD

Noticed that I had some oil in the spark plug areas in what I believe would be cylinder 5 and 6, all others were dry.

I have 311K on the vehicle and this would be the first major issue I have had with the car.

I have no external leaks around the outside of the Valve Cover to the motor.
And it is getting time to replace the PCV box once again on the car.

Is this a repair a DIY'er can do? Is there a lot involved? what are some of the pit falls of doing this on your own versus a shop? Any special tools for this?

Are there any good how to videos online on how to do this type of repair on this engine?

Let me know. I can't spend big bucks on this...

    Good suggestions above!

    Also, check the oil filler cap's black rubber gasket. The gasket gets brittle, it no longer seals and can leak oil onto top of head and into the spark plug wells. Especially on an engine with high crankcase pressure due to failing PCV system.

      Absolutely no oil leaks around the the outside of the PCV unit, Valve cover, oil cap, the top of the Valve cover is bone dry as well.

      Dino oil is to be avoided!
      You should be using only full synthetic oil?

      This is a major advantage of DIY,
      you can be sure of what you're getting.

        Ever since I bought the car I have all areas switched over to Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants.

        Engine oil (ASL-5w30) and the next go around will be with (AZF-0w40),
        Mann oil filter,
        Front/Rear Axle Fluids (SVG-75w90) gear oil
        AOC Fluid/filter are changed out every summertime. Per Haldex they should be serviced every 40k, Not per your Volvo Dealership, Nor per Volvo North America or for that matter many mechanics. As they have been told that it is a lifetime change. Hence why people are blowing there AWD systems out on Volvo because of the neglect on this area.
        Amsoil Brake fluids
        Amsoil Power Steering fluids

        With everything serviced/maintained I get around 28 mpg with my T6 AWD and I do tow a trailer with it once a month as well.

        It helps that I am an Amsoil Dealer as well. www.weareoil.com

        Have been using the product for the past 30 years in everything I own.

      At this point I've replaced the Volvo Plugs and Coils.

      When it warms up a bit I'm going to be replacing the PCV Box and will check the situation then again.

    If you don't want to spend a lot of money, Why not just clean up the oil and then check the engine again in a thousand miles?

    I would even pull those plugs, clean the parts and even clean the bore with a sturdy rag.

    This would be inexpensive and be little risk of disturbing some stuff that is comfortable as it is.

      I'm waiting for some warmer weather at this point. When that happens I will be changing out the PCV box out on top of the engine. At that time I figured I would check each of the cylinder spark plug holes out.
