Hi ____,

No need to disconnect battery.
The engine will be off of course, and ignition key out.

While you are cleaning the AMM, I'd service the connector as well.
I cleaned mine with 90% isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush
then blow out with air, I used a small amount of dielectric silicone
on the pins and even that seemed too much to plug it back together.
My next time servicing this connector I'll use a dab of dielectric silicone no
larger than a pencil eraser and then use a small stiff brush or even a clean toothbrush to spread a thin film on the pins.

I wonder if CRC spray silicone (available at Walmart) might be ideal for this connector?

If you're ambitious service the CPS connector while you're at it.
The AMM and CPS send key signals that don't want corroded/dirty connectors.

Beware of servicing some Volvo connectors with solvent, namely Bullet connectors,
the type used for the RSR and OBD ports in older models.
The female pins are held in place with some kind of stuff that might fall apart with solvents and/or old age, with solvents speeding up the failure.

Happy motoring, Bill

Logic would tell me that if the ignition is shut off you would be OK to leave the battery connected.
