Hacks for getting top alternator bolt out XC90 2008

Alternator needs replacement due to bad voltage regulator over charging. I have run out of ideas on how to get the top bolt out.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards,
Bill

    Hi Bill,

    What's the specific problem?
Can you provide a photo of what you're looking at?
Are you unable to swap out the VR and leave the alternator in place?
I'm not familiar with your car, so just general hints:

First, try to get some mystery oil on the threads and bolt,
a soak will help a lot. The longer the better.
Maybe that's easier said than done, but use a mirror and find a way to soak
the bolt/threads and shaft of the bolt.

(on reassembly use anti seize on the bolts to avoid this headache later)

Can you get heat on the part where the threads are?
Look from up top and below. Heat is magic to free stuck bolts.
Use MAPP gas instead of propane.

Shock sometimes helps with a solid smack on the hex head.
Can you get a hand impact driver on the hex bolt head?

or try hitting a wrench each way to break it free.
6 point sockets and breaker bar wrenches preferred.
Don't over-do so much you snap the bolt head off.

That's why a long Mystery oil soak is good.

    Good luck, Bill
