Weird message and motoboating V70-XC70

So Im driving home from work in my 2011 XC 70 t6 , (143,000miles) and I have the AC on because its very hot out.
The car sends me a message and a temp light, (briefly). The message was to reduce speed or shift up. (I'm in drive)? The motor also is motorboating sounding ..like a sputtering though I don't seem to have lost power. I was doing about 50mph.
I turn off the AC and the temp light warning and message goes away, but the motor boating still persists.

I got home and checked my cooling and oil, both seem fine. Spark plugs were done at about 110,000 miles.

Any ideas???
Thank you,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Check your transmission fluid level and color.
If it's brown it's time to flush it down.

Check for OBD codes.
Many auto parts stores will do it for you for free.

I agree with Bill. Get your OBD codes read. Can only help.

Coil packs are a good guess if yours are original. A bad transmission or temperature sensor are a few other possibilities.

2011 Volvos don’t have tranny dipsticks. There are no transmission dipsticks on any modern cars including Volvo. Don’t know which year they got rid of them. but my guess is the last year of the dipstick was the last year of the previous model V70/XC70 in 2007?? Car manufacturers plot to drive people to their dealerships.

Will I buy another Volvo??? We'll see....

My guesses are either coil packs or possibly the thermostat? But I'm no mechanic unless its built in the '60's, 70's, LOL!
