2000 V70 Ambient Temp

2000 V70 SE B5244S non-turbo Denso AW-55 304K miles

Yesterday the ambient temperature digital readout no longer displays the outside air temperature. Instead, on the dashboard DIM it now reads " - - - - ". All of the other DIM selections work OK.

Haven't investigated yet, but I know the ambient temp sensor is mounted in/behind the front valance (can't remember whether it's driver or passenger side).

Any ideas? Because of the sudden hard failure, I'm thinking the sensor fell out of its mount and/or wires are broken. Car was recently serviced with a timing belt and water pump change, and I know some of the front parts were removed for the service; e.g., the lower air guide.

Also, anyone know a part number for the ambient air sensor, 2000 V70? Later V70s have the sensor mounted around rear view mirrors. On 98-00 V70s, the sensor is behind the front valance.

To add after further inspection and researching parts availability.

The sensor is located in lower valance area, passenger (RH) side.

    Volvo p/n: 9125603

So far, Volvo parts houses I have accessed list the item as: discontinued / out of stock.

So, going to have to find Used if possible. Or, a reproduction part or suitable cross-referenced replacement.

Did some troubleshooting: 5V across harness plug pins with ignition switch on/engine not running. No (zero) continuity across the two pins of the unplugged sensor. I guess that means the sensor is No Good.

      Follow up:

Acquired a new ambient temp sensor and installed it. Still not working for ambient temp reading, and shows "- - - -" TEMP readout at the DIM.

5V is measured at the harness plug, which I read as correct.

Other thoughts: Could the problem be in the dash-mounted selector switch? I don't know offhand where to find that switch, but I'll research it.
