Looking for Gear Shifting Cables - Manual 5-speed transmission 850 1996

Hello All,

I have a 1996 850 GLT Wagon, non-turbo with a 5-speed manual. The two gear shift cables (one for the forward speeds and one for reverse) are deteriorating. The plastic cover on both cables has cracked and fallen off exposing the cables to moisture and dirt. The individual strands of the cables are starting to separate and break off. Volvo doesn't sell the cable set (they are not sold individually). The part number is # 9176272. I have called a couple of salvage yards to no avail.

Can anyone suggest where I might find a new or used set of cables. I had the engine rebuilt on this Volvo just over a year ago, so it would kill me to have to retire this Volvo because I couldn't find a set of cables. I thank in advance al who respond.

Hugh

Looking for Gear Shifting Cables - Manual 5-speed transmission 850 1996

    Hi Hugh,

I was thinking about Ford taking over Volvo and Jaguar in 1996. Maybe Ford used some Volvo parts on their standard gear boxes. I know Jaguar used Ford parts in their cars in the early 2000's. Just a thought, but a Ford dealer could have something similar that works. Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving.
