The 4 year factory warranty on my 1998 Volvo C70 is expiring soon.
Having had several warranty repairs done in the past 2 years I am considering purchasing a Warranty Extension/Service Plan.
These plans start from $2000, Any thoughts ?
Any experiences with problems after the Warranty has expired ?

I have a 95 855 and 98 S70 and was offered extended warranties
(by Volvo) when they factory warranty expired. Both had repairs
done in first couple of years but then "settled in". Since I
knew the history and had not had any major problems in 2 years
before the warranty expired I decided not to purchase it.

Since the warranty expired I have speant $300 on the 855 (57K miles)
replacing the PNP swicth on the transmission (parts and labor).
This is a common problem.

On the 98 S70 (43K miles) I replaced the blower motor for the
interior climate controls. $140 for parts (I did the work mysef).
An easy repair and also a common problem.

So far, I'm ahead.

Both cars are maintained "by the book" and I keep on top of
all problems.

If these had been in and out of the dealership with repeated
problems or I had not purchased them new (and thus did not know
the history) then I probably would have purchased the Volvo
warranty (which, I recall, was closer to $1200).

I have a 1998 C70 with close to 100K miles on it. I know, I drive a whole lot! This car has been an absolute dream in terms of repais (majorly knock on wood). The only thing that I had replaced after the warranty expired was a faulty ABS system. In the next week I'm going to get the back molding of the window replaced since it's getting brittle. Other than that, I haven't had a single problem with it. Oh yeah, and I switched to synthetic at 80K miles.

Yes. I was spooked into buying the Volvo extended warranty. So far it's been a loser. The car has been really good since the warranty expired. But mine is a V70, not a C70 which as an entirely different animal. If the warranty provider is using SV70 data to assess risk for C70s it might be a bargain. Then again, maybe not.
