Front passenger inside door lever 'stuck.' V70-XC70

Without warning or indication, the front passenger inside door lever won't move. The outside handle and locking mechanism appear to functioning nominally...you just can't get out of the car w/o putting down the window (or having assist). I'm hoping it's something as minor as a child lock switch that I don't appear on the front doors.

    I removed the interior door panel and latch assembly to find that the plastic cable connector/clasp (holds cable cowling onto the back of the latch mechanism) had snapped. This prevented the cable crimped end from being fully seated and therefore disabled the latch handle from moving. Rather than replace the cable mechanism, I epoxied the remainder of the plastic cable clasp to the handle. So far, so good.

      Wow! That sounds like a serious safety issue. If this happened during accident, it would prevent occupants from being able to escape. Not a good thing. On the positive note, I've been reading this board for a long time and have not heard this before, so maybe it is an isolated occurance and not a design flaw.
