400 $ to lube ipd sway bars??? 850

The local dealer said that it would cost 400$ in labor to lube my noisey ipd sway bars. Are they sick or what?

I am not happy with ipd and these bars. The noise has gotten pretty bad.

When did you buy them? About a year ago they had problems with the power coating being thicker than normal. This made the bushing tight and the grease came out. The new bushings are bigger and do not push out the grease. This was for the front bar. As for labor it should be around an hour to change the free bushings that IPD will send you.

    400 $ to lube ipd sway bars???---just a side note 850 1995

is yours squeaking in the front or the rear? my was squeaking AND chattering in the rear...dealer said is was just noise...nothing wrong...i thought it was the liscense plate cause i didn't use the bottow two screwcaps. i was jacking up my car to install ipd's sport exhaust when i found that the rear sway bar had broken on the right side, where the welding to the two perpendicular holes were. the bar was moving up and down and hitting the still attached to the trailing/transverse arms lower hole, so squeaking and chattering. took it out and ipd replaced it for free...but i couldn't get it back it :) so i had them installed elsewhere(suspension geometry was off)

How to stop the squeak 850

I have an 850 turbo, but this is how I stopped the squeak in the poly bushings in my 240. Remove the bracket and split bushings. On the side opposite the split, drill a hole through the bracket and bushing. Install a zerk grease fitting. Now you can easily and effectively lub the bushings when they need it.

It's probably not a matter of lubing as that's cake but probably more that they don't want to deal with your aftermarket parts and whoever's saying that would rather replace them with OEM instead. Why? Because their experience proves that you won't hear ANY noise with OEM, thus won't possibly return again in the near future with the exact same complaint. If a dealer tech doesn't fix a problem right the first time, it goes back to him the next time and he's working for free so he won't want to see that happen thus that's why you're being given a high $$ estimate.....they don't want to deal with those IPD parts.

Now, if it was me I'd just lube 'em and simply explain that they might need occasional future lubing as well but not everyone would do that, as odd as that might seem.

Not eveyone working in all dealers would try blasting you like that. Not only do many of our customers use IPD parts, I do too so I'd be on your side rather than just condemn anything made/sold by IPD (or other).

Next time, if you're going to a dealer try another one if there's one in your area. They're not ALL bad.

For $400 YOU will need lube!!! 850

    Herr BenDover,

Don't take it anymore. I've had my IPD bars on the 850 for 5 years now. NO squeaks, noises, etc. Am I just living good? I did use a mixture of boat trailer grease and silicone grease when I installed them. NASTY stuff - I havn't had so much fun with lube since my return - but it seems to be hanging in there.

PS Pizza doesn't come with the girl OR the lube. You want an applicator with that?

Go out and buy a garage quality silicone lube spray like BG. Jack up the front of the car, and remove the wheels. Disconnect the anti-sway link rods from the sway bars. Hose down the poly-urethane bushings, and twist the roll bar back and forth within the bushing to insure it gets everywhere. I did this to mine weeks ago, and I haven't heard a squeak since.

$400 sounds right. Mine replaced 1/2 my front suspension (warranty), 3 visits, then discovored the IPD bars on the car. Said I needed new bushings. IPD sent me new bushings, gratis. Went to IPD installer, he looked at bushings, said they'll need replacement eventually, but sprayed silicone into them ($20), and it's been fine since.

Without any doubt, the worst thing about Volvos is the friggin' moron Volvo dealers!
