CDI ignition? S70 1998

Thinking of getting a better spark for my upgraded ECU program with a Capactive discharge ignition kit. Any pros and cons to share?

There was a thread quite a while ago debating the use of capacitive discharge ignition systems. Suffice it to say, capacitive discharge ignition systems are VERY good, but the average street car will not make use of it's full potential. You are better off getting a better coil to replace the ridiculously undersized oe coil.

Granted, on turbos, the compression is pretty low at under 9:1. But still, I think that coil is just WAY too small. I'm definetly upgrading mine when I start upping my boost electronically.

I've tried opening the spark plug gap but couldn't get past 0.9mm. So thinking of CDI so I can open up the gap and improve fuel economy during daily drive as well.

Gonna get a CDI kit from a friend to try before I make my purchase decision ;-)

You don't want to go too big on your gap. First of all, going too big and the you'll need to upgrade the rest of the ignition system.

I presume with a CDI installed the plug gap can be widen right? also do I have to consider removing the distributor rotor's resistor to prevent it from burning out?
