Humming noise at high speed only.. really concerned V70-XC70 2000

Hey fellows,

I've never pushed the car hard before but since I was on a *safe* straight strip and nobody around yesterday, I decided to have a little fun and find out how the XC handles at high speed. However, at around 140Kmph (88 mph), I could hear a humming noise that comes and goes as the car rolls. As I went faster, the noise didn't change in pitch nor in frequency. As soon as I hit below 140Kmph, no more noise. Is this typical of AWD systems at high speed? Driveshafts out of balance? Seeking help here before taking it in... Oh yeah, alignment and winter tires (Gislaveds) balanced about 2 months ago..

Thanks!

I had my 2000 XC up to max speed and I was bummed when the engine throttle stopped at 125mph. She was still accelerating up to that point and then no more speed. But at that speed she was steady as a rock and as quiet as one can expect for a car going that fast. I had the factory Continential tires on at the time. Most of the time I cruise at 75-80 without any humming.

You'ld need to have an experienced tech hear the noise to at least have an idea as otherwise, we'd just be speculating here. I've seen many AWD parts make noise on XCs but I won't start guessing here from your description as it's too easy to guess wrong.
