I have a 98 S70 T5, Sc-816, does the same thing as yours, i just live with it. Its only noticable when the volume is way down.

Well, i don't have a "static" problem, but I had it replaced last month after it adjusted down and lost some of it's punch (warranty). Now it's aggressively raising or lowering its own volume at times. I don't have a problem with the sound quality, but I wonder...

I think the radio is OK and the CD is quite good :)

Anyway, the volume control is digital on an 816, so this is
very strange. With an analog volume control you would normally
clean it with TV tuner cleaner. But, in this case I think
it will need professional help (or replacement)

You can check if it is digital (in case I am wrong) by twisting
the volume knob really fast. On digital volume controls the
volume will not change when you do this. The volume control
will also just keep going around and around on a digital unit
since there are no stops (so you can twist it 720 degrees, or more).

I agree w/Ray on all accounts. I like this head unit. I liked when Volvo replaced mine last year b/c a bulb was out ;-) I like that it's digital volume control won't wear out and shouldn't cause the exact problem you're describing that results from bad contacts, usually at lower volume levels on older radios.

If you can't get it swapped out under warranty or good will, I'd live with it. Or you can open it up and spay some of that "clean air" stuff in there to see if there are some contacts that may be dirty.
