My car is a lemon - Part 2 - a possible Carbon Monoxide Leak S40-V40 2001

I know this is going to sound strange but is anyone suspecting a carbon monoxide leak inside their S40? I suspect it is coming from the floor boards? My friend noticed this on his clothes recently and pointed it out to me. He knows a lot about cars so I'm taking this seriously. And, of course I was not aware of this until now and my clothes smell of fuel fumes too. No wonder I yawn a lot in my car. My car is poisoning me!! I am taking it in on the 25th along with MORE problems: fuel gauge, gas cap door doesn't open properly, violent overdrive shifts and the service light needs to be turned off. These problems along with my prior problems are insane for a car under 7k miles.

I'd appreciate it if anyone can give me insight to this CO problem!!

Best regards!!

Georgina

I have noticed the same thing. My dealer believes I was smelling this after refueling. I have a 2000 S40 and it is the worst car I have ever owned! My clothes were very smelly too.

Drop by your local general aviation airport and buy one of the carbon monoxide detectors. They should cost less than $10. Essentially, they are a plastic card with a small dot that will change colors in the presence of carbon monoxide.

Hmm.. CO is a colorless, odorless gas. How can one 'notice' it on clothes?

Exhaust leaks are usually audible. In front of the cat it often results in a rattling noise (like a 2-stroke engine) and in the rest of the exhaust system more of a blowing sound. Exhaust note also changes.

    Bye, Arno.

If you really think there is an exhaust leak, take it to the dealer. You also could go to an aviation shop at an airport and buy a CO detector, its a little plastic stick on button that will change color if CO is present.

Carbon Monoxide has NO ODOR! You're smelling something else. If there's any type of fuel or exhaust fumes really venting into your car, why are you here rather than having your dealer inspecting it?

Bring the car in right away.

Don't wait, it could be serious.
No one online can see what is going on, but it is not normal from what you describe.
