Fog light bulb replacement continued..... S70

I thought I would raise this posting from the previous fog light bulb replacement question just because the outcome was SO much fun!

As I mentioned before, I purchased the bulbs from my local Volvo dealer. When I got home and proceeded to remove the old bulb, I found there was no bulb, AT ALL!!! Someone had stolen it!!!! So it appears even Volvo owners are capable of such petty acts. Either that or when it was in for service a mechanic needed to replace one on another car and decided it was easier just to lift one off the next car. Either way it's not a good sign that society, as a whole, is making much progress.

Anyway, the bulb replacement was extremely easy. Time was measured in seconds, not minutes, to make the switch. Just twist the socket counter clockwise, insert bulb in socket, and replace socket in the light housing, twist clockwise.

Thanks for the follow-up. I will pick up my bulb from the dealer today ($13) and install over the week end. Hopefully, I'll find a bulb in the existing socket!

Thirteen bucks? How about $5? S70

The foglight bulbs for the S70 are available at autozone, pep boys, etc for a mere $4.99 each.

Well, normally that would really make me mad, but twice the price is what I've come to expect from Volvo. I'm beginning to think half the quality is also part of the equation.

Be careful not to apply too much torque (with your wrist) to the bulb housing when you're slipping it back in to the lens case - it'll crack easily. The lens case becomes very brittle after time. I've got to get a new one this week.

Also, it's pretty common on the '98s for the right front fog light bulb jack to burn out. A new one from the dealer is $16 + a bulb from pep boys ($4.99). Not too bad. But now, I've got to buy a new lens case because I cracked off the retention stubs when working on mine last.

Yuck.
