I found an 850 R 850

I found an 850 R sedan today for with only 15,000 miles. The sale price is $19,990. This car is white with a spoiler. Is this something that I should get? Does this price sound pretty good or too high? I really like this car it has the automatic Tranny.

Thanks,
Homer

homer, shop around some more...take a look at ebay and see what three or four year old s70's go for...i've even seen 2000 turbo's with 30-40K miles going for less than $20K ...keep looking or offer this guy $12K.

While they’re at it have the “in-service” date checked too. My ’97 R, which I purchased in November of 1999, had an “in-service” date of September 1998. This was a very nice thing as far as the warranty is concerned.

I do think they made a very limited number of white R’s

Good luck

Homer- you didn't say what year or if it was a dealer selling?? since you say 850R it guess it is either a 96 or 97, right? I don't recall Rs coming in White, but i may be wrong. Could it be a Platinum Edition 850???!!!
Anyway if the milage is true, the price seems "reasonible", but for that much $$$ you had better be getting an extra warranty to, say 40,000mls. good luck!
PS- provide the vin #, someone here may be able to verify the info for you; if not set up an account at carfax.com and get the details. BD

I believe the 850 R came in white sedan and wagon. I have an 855 wagon Platinum that would be for sale to the right byer. The reason you think the price is to high is because the owner is making a sacrifice letting this car go. you may just have to pay the price. Volvo only made a limited edition of these cars and I think only 20,000 were brought to the states. That is for sedans and wagons combined. I think the most elusive 850 is in purple it was I think a very limited edition car possibly a few hundred or so. Although I may be wrong. If you are interested in finding an 850 r look here in New England at Dalzell volvo they are schiesters but they will find the car for you.

white 850 R 850

hi, fellow rollers!

found a really nice 850R from eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1808083343&r=0&t=0

w/o volans but otherwise seems to be quite top cond. (light birch panels and alcantara, yummy)

i'm from europe and currently searching for an 855R
and it seems that all euro models have the roof racks factory mounted on them...can someone correct me if there were an option of euro 850R's coming without roof racks (like the clean roof-line).

i have the 97 R brcochure and it states that available colors are black stone, red, green, grey (?) and turquise blue. white seems really nice, IMHO.

happy safely rollin'

mark

If that is true mileage, then it must have been in someones garage for the past several years. The paint should also be immaculate for those few miles. If it is true, it is a steal---or there is something seriously wrong with it.

I would be very careful regarding the mileage on this car, is it well documented and how many owners. I would also have the total mileage read by your Volvo Dealer using the OBD-2 socket, this would give you independent confirmation of the true mileage. The price is only right if the mileage is genuine, otherwise it is several thousand too high.

I agree... 850

if it REALLY is true, jump on it!
Get it checked out by a volvo dealer with an OBD-2 socket just in case someone is telling a lie.

When I shop for my 2nd 850 T-5, after the first one got stolen :( , my mechanic taught me 2 tricks to verify if the mileage had ever been adjusted. If no maintenance records provided.
1. the number will not stay in line if they'd been adjusted, maybe not too noticeable, but can be seen.
2. check the mileage window around the rim, there will be marks, unless someone disassemble the whole cluster just to get to it, too much work.
However, I am in Taiwan, no idea how it works in the States. People seems to care more about the mileage & the $$ then the maintenance. If I were you, I'll try find a more realistic car with a complete maintenance records. At least I will know what I am getting into. Volvo makes car that last, so I don't think any reasonable driving mileage matters.
