Turbo: How many miles are TOO many miles? What to look for? 850

Looking at purchasing a '94-'95 850 Turbo to keep as a second car- a "play toy" that I'd like to have some fun with. I'm not planning to modify it at first, but maybe later on down the line. For right now it would be "restoring" it by cleaning it up and having a little fun at the dragstrip and at traffic lights...he he.

Anyway, I want the engine to be able to perform under heavy stress, should I decide to spend a hot summer afternoon at the dragstrip. Without knowing much about the service history of a particular car, what mileage would you consider to be TOO high? ie; when should I begin to worry about things likely going wrong under the hood? And in looking at these cars on dealership lots and in people's lawns, what are a few things I should automatically look for in order to help insure my purchase of a reliable and solid 850 Turbo?

Thanks in advance
andrew

ps- anyone know of a good 850 Turbo for sale CHEAP in Texas? :)

What part of Texas are you in? I'm in Ft. Worth. Maybe I could bring my 850 turbo when you're at the track? :)

    Regards.

It all comes down to maintenance. I would prefer one with 150,000 miles and full maintenance records to one with 100,000 miles and no records.

When it comes to the turbo models oil changes are vital to the life of the car.

If you find one "cheap" it'll most likely either have high mileage on it (like 200K miles) or be a "crash puppy" and if you're buying this as a toy to modify, one with high mileage would not be a good choice IMO.
Although they'll go over 200K with care (very well maintained, oil changed often, etc), I'd advise seeking one out with less than 100K miles or I think you'll end up having problems. I'd also try to buy one with a proven service history (receipts and/or maintenance book that's been kept up with dealer stamps) as I've seen a few abused, neglected, overheated 850Ts with less than 100K in very poor condition. Volvo or not, they can be prematurely destroyed like the rest with abuse and/or neglect.
