a few questions for the pros... God bless the internet 850 1995

Hello, it's me again. I have a few questions. :)

First of all, my 95 850 turbo wagon is acting up a bit. My check engine light is on, and has been on for quite some time. I pulled the codes, and I got 2-3-2 and 2-4-1. When I reset the codes, the car idles rough for a while until the IACV (i think the IACV does it) compensates and the engine smooths out. Then the check engine light comes on again. Does anybody have a clue as to what the culprit would be, before I take it into the dealership? I'm thinking it's vacuum related, as most, if not all, of my vacuum hoses are brittle and/or dry rotting. There is one hose in particular behind the engine attached to the turbo that is so rotted (yet not brittle, it's soft) that it is actually collapsing in on itself. This hose is about pinkie-finger in size with a right-angle bend at the attachment point, and it is coming off a larger hose that is coming off the main big hose into the turbo. Any ideas?

My next concern is a resonating vibration from about 60 mph on up. This vibration comes and goes consistently about every 3 or 4 seconds and seems to be in the back of the car, not the front wheels. I have brand new brake rotors and pads, and brand new tires. I had the tires re-balanced, thinking that might be the problem. It wasn't. Could this be a warped wheel? The vibration is not really harsh, but does increase in harshness with an increase in speed (i.e., at 80 mph, it's vibrating much harsher).

My next concern is the turbo. Most of the time it works flawlessly. However, there are times when I will push the pedal down, and the needle will only go slightly past center, and I don't hear that "hiss" that I love so much, and don't seem to get any boost. Could this be related to that collapsed hose, or could it be something else? (I'm thinking it's vacuum related, too, since it does work most of the time)

Thank you for any help!

Kevin

for your info.. 241 is EGR malfunction
232 is Lambda adjustment for 1994 and later heated oxgen sonsor (mixture too lean under part throttle) long term fuel mixture too rich in part load stage.

this is what the book said.

now about vaccum hose why don't you just replace it yourself they chip..

      hello,

Thanks for the response and the information. Another question: What is Lambda?
Is this something that I can adjust? And if so, how do I adjust it? If this is something that I can fix myself, I'd love to. I've done so much work on this car myself already that I am actually starting to bond with it. There are just so many hoses that I thought i'd just let the dealership tackle it. However, I may decide to start replacing one or two now and then myself. Thanks for any help.

      Kevin

Lamda is the 02 sensor. No adjustment but if you cure the vacuum problem the sensors should be ok.

Thanks for the info on the vacuum/o2 sensor issue. I guess what I need to know now is this: I am getting an EGR valve fail code and I was wondering if I can just replace the EGR valve or do I need to also replace the egr vacuum solenoid as well?

          Thanks for the help!

Most common cause for the codes is a vacuum leak and you're on the right path with the rubber elbows. Replace 'em all. Go to volvospeed.com to see a couple of the trickier ones. That is also causing the turbo to malfunction. It works off the same sense lines and elbows.
The vibration is ????? Could be simply a loose exhaust component or heat shield setting up a sympathetic resonance at certain speeds or a bent rim or a bad wheel bearing or ???????? Good luck

turbo question: i think it's more of a turbo lag than anything...if there isn't enough air "stuffed" in the exhaust part/drive part of the turbo, then it just doesn't seem to kick in. but if it's got air jammed in already, then when the turbo kicks in, man...it's violent =)

error codes: donno, i thought i could see some older posts but
    http://www.brickboard.com/AWD/index.htm?id=419589&show_all=1
    didn't turn out.

vibration: i have a similar vibration, tires are all nicely balanced, but the passenger rear wheel is a little bent, but not too badly. and it doesn't seem to be too bad with speed. people told me i need to have it balanced while it's on the car...i have a question (for my car at least), is the driveshaft supposed to be straight? if not, is it possible the driveshafts are bent and causing the vibration?
