I recently purchased a 1997 850R - my understanding is that all 1997 850Rs were manufactured in Belgium - when applying for insurance for this car, the ins. co. needed a pictured of the VIN plate on driver's side door jam, however, my 850R does not have a VIN plate located there. There is one on the driver's side window and in the engine compartment. Is this true for your 850R (a peculiarity of the Belgium plant) or has this car been wrecked?

I have a 97 850R and the badge is on the door and also on the drivers side dash in the corner below the windshield. As far as your insurance company..very strange. I am with State Farm and they never asked for a picture. They simply asked for the vin. They do that on all of the cars I have had with them.

I have a 1996 850R which was built in Gothenburg, Sweden. There is a ID plate on the trailing edge of the driver's door which shows my cars build date and VIN #.

My ’97 R has a VIN sticker (well it’s more robust then a sticker) on the door itself. It’s towards the rear of the car down at the bottom, just below the red open door marker light.

I have a 1997 850R on the way to me and should be here this week. I will take a look and let you know. Curious what insurance company needed that kind of stuff. When I was younger and using the alternative type insurance companies I remember then always taking pictures. I use Farmers now and they never even need to see the vehicle.
