Check Engine light from defective spark plug V70-XC70 1999

I just did the 30,000 mile service on my distributorless V70 T5M. This included a spark plug replacement. After starting the car, it ran like crap. I disconnected each plug in turn and found the problem to be in #4 cylinder. After re-installing the old plug in #4, the car runs fine, but the Check Engine light is still on.

I remember reading that the Check Engine light would go off after some number of startups with no fault, or some number of miles with no fault. Is this true? Will it go out if I wait long enough, or do I have to go pay the dealer to shut it off?

(I have certainly seen it go on and off on its own, back when I had a defective throttle position sensor.)

(Sorry if this is a duplicate message. The first one I submitted hadn't shown up after 20 minutes.)

If you disconnect your battery for about 15 minutes the check light will go away.
    Happy disconnecting :-)

      Wow. That worked great. Thanks.
