Replace ECT sensor with thermostat?? 850

OK, I've decided I can take a shot at replacing my thermostat but wonder if I should replace the ECT sensor at the same time. The one how-to page I read (thanks Erwin!) says to replace both at the same time. Is this just recommended, or necessary?

Every additional repair is an opportunity for me to mess something up, you know.

thanks, Alan

No reason to replace something unless it is malfunctioning, which it probably isn't. Not to mention it is easy to replace at any time. Lastly, the thermostat took about 10 minutes for me to replace on my 855.

Replace ECT sensor with thermostat?? 850

    Hi all,

I agree with both guys comments. I just followed bay13's instrutions and they were brilliant. I am self teached diy mechanic necessity to save the $$/pounds at the dealership...

I just did mine last week, been putting up with the 4o'clock syndrome. Well my babe is 8 years old and never changed either, only the coolant every year to two years depending on the mileage. I went for broke and did the pipes as well.

If you got the time, and the parts are not that expensive to be honest, and some good coolant go for it imo.

If part is cheap, and your time is expensive (or mechanics time is
expensive), then I'd do it (especially if Bay 13 recommends it).
