Question about o2 sensors.URGENT 850 1997

I`ve been in Bosch assembly today to order rear o2 sensor.I rewrited the number from the old o2 sensor 0 258 003 594 and when my dealer typed it into their computer he said that this part, under this number stoped making in 1999,and the alternative product number is 0 258 005 062.I also read this in their computer:FRONT O2 SENSOR-regulation sensor;REAR O2 SENSOR-diagnose(or diagnostic)sensor.I thought that the rear one is also regulation sensor?Any answers are very appriciated!!!

I can't help you about the PNs but both O2 sensors are used to regulate in a sense. The main purpose of the second O2 sensor is to check the cat convertors efficiency (making sure that it's working). The front O2 sensor does most of the work.

Now, why are you replacing O2 sensors? If you're seeing codes for both, double check all vacuum lines as that'd be the cause, not 2 bad O2 sensors at the same time. You'ld be surprised how many times I've seen that misdiagnosed for what shouldn't have cost more than some diagnostic time plus a little vacuum hose.

Along with what Glen said, I've read (but have not yet done) that often just undoing the sensor probe, hitting it with a flame from a Benzo torch and cleaning what's there with brake cleaner can work wonders. Certainly worth a try, says your wallet...
