1997 850 motor 850

I need a motor to replace a 1997, 5 cylinder, 850 Volvo which has failed for no discernible reason but which is no longer under warranty. Cost and mileage is a consideration. My Volvo has been my pride and joy, and the this motor failure is unprecedented according to the dealership. Can anyone offer assistance in helping me find a motor, and can anyone share experiences of replacing motors with used ones?

Check on ebay for the motor you need. There have been several just lately, one 850 with only ten thousand miles a week or two ago. It is a salvage company that offers complete engines and heads, I can't think of their name but ebay will show you past sales.

Had to change my manual transmission last summer. New one was 3500. Can $. Found one at CENTRE DE RECYCLAGE ST-Bruno near montreal for $800. Hoping for you that the engine is still available. Still going strong. Seems that they have a few 850's parts in stock.

    Can call them at 800-361-3254.

I have no actual experience replacing an engine, however, just a few days ago I checked with Advance Auto Parts on the price of a remanufactured engine and transmission "just for fun" to see how much i would have to pay in case i ever needed to replace them.

Advance can get me (for my model) a remanufactured engine for about $3030.00 US. A reman transmission is about $2200.00 US. I was shocked that they can actually get these things when they can't even get an A/C blower motor for my car, which is a 95 850 turbo.

    Something to consider.

      prices 850

I havent checked dealer cost for a reman engine (havent had the need yet) but I've replaced several 850 trannies and customer cost for a OEM Volvo reman trans from Volvo is only $1,650 US dollars (not $2,200) so someone's seriously marking that price up there. It's a 10 hour job so the OEM trans replaced at our dealership runs $2,300 total.
