T-5 vs Turbo vs GLT

HI all. I am new to this side of the BB.I'm mostly on RWD side. I used to not care too much for the FWD volvos mainly because they are costly when it comes to repairs and not as fun to drive like their older siblings 2/7/9 Series BRICKS.Anyways I've been thinking(just thinking) about purchasing a 8 Series BRICK wagon. Guess I am getting old or something. What is the differences in Turbos/T5/GLT models? If I had the LOOT,and could find one, it would be the 855R that is Yellow. Thank you

Naw, these FWD Volvos, they're lots of trouble and no fun at all. Look for a nice 240DL automatic.

Road & Track Road Test results:

    1998 Volvo S70 T5 R&T 2/99

    0-60 6.1
    0-100 15.7
    1/4 mile 14.7@ 97.0 mph
    skidpad 0.79 g
    700 ft. slalom 60.9 mph

    1984 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 R&T 2/84

    0-60 6.2
    0-100 16.2
    1/4 mile 14.6@ 96.0 mph
    skidpad 0.831g
    700 ft. slalom 61.2mph

I think of my V70T5 as a Porsche Carrera with the optional Romulan Cloaking Device. (Porsche's engineers even breathed upon the motor!) The Volvo is almost invisible to the gendarme. It IS cheaper to maintain than a Porsche Carrera.

You are 100% right, about the "gendarmes" not picking on Volvo wagons. Today, I thought that my inactive streak with police tickets (going on 5 years, now!) was going to be broken as I was going slightly downhill and overtaking a Jetta at about 78+mph (55mph zone). In front of us was another VW, a Passat and Mr. I-eat-too-many-donuts-but-love-to-ticket-Saturday-drivers local policeman was hiding at a spot that I have never seen him hide before. Well, I quickly thought..."my car is bright red, the Jetta is black and the Passat is silver, we are all doing pretty much the same speed but I was overtaking...I am cooked"! Surely enough, as we pass him, lights go on, I stay on the right lane, same goes for the Passat, the Jetta stays on the left lane, but they both hit their brakes I just downshift very quickly (benefit of having a manual gearbox!) and just wait for my destiny which, I was sure, was going to lighten my wallet by at least $140...Mr. Dunking Donut cop accelrates behind me, I am ready to accept my fate but, suddenly, goes on the left lane, Jetta pulls in front of me, he passes the Jetta and...pulls over the Passat! I was thanking God and all the assorted Saints that are celebrated in the Greek Orthodox Church and moved along at...45mph! I don't know what it was but I thought that if I were driving a bright red S60 T5, I would most likely have been the victim!

Helps to have a wagon! ;)

Probably helped that you weren't first in line. He can probably only pull over the car his radar is locked onto. With cars between you and Officer Dunkindonut, you were invisible to his radar.

Why the Passat was pulled over

My brother the dispatcher tells me: the radar reports the fastest speed (which may have been you, Yannis) but the lead car is still presumed to be the fastest. This protocol is designed to eliminate judgment calls by donut-gulping officers. The guy in the Passat may have been fined a few extra bucks if the radar read *your* speed instead of his.
