sticky throttle pedal 850

Has anyone out there experienced a sticky throttle (gas) pedal. its like very hard to depress at the beginning and then its fine for the remainder of the pedal travel. Is the fix just to lube it up with some lithium grease? and if so, where? thanks Ken

thanks for the inputs. got a can of O2 friendly cleaner, it was a valvoline product, the only one that was recommended for TBs, took off the inlet hose, sprayed it and its fine, may spray it again to clean it up abit more, but it seems to work great now. question, do you spray it when the engine is hot or cold. i did it cold but was wondering if there was benefits with it hot? Take off the air intake hose connection to the throttle body and get some "B'laster" penetrant spray from an auto parts store. Spray internal linkage thoroughly.(spraying outside does nothing). This should free up the carbon build-up and your throttle should be fine. I used to try the gas tank method and it was marginal at best!

I'd go along with dirty throttle body. My peddle was getting the same sort of stickyness to it and when I went in to change flame trap found it was very gummed up in the throttle body (just like in the good old carborator days!). Used a good O2 friendly cleaner and now no stick.

To me it sounds like the throttle body need cleaning. Mine has not been dirty enough to make the pedal sticky, but i have read that some will get that bad. Try it and see. Just use a carb cleaner that is o2 sensor friendly. I use a toothbrush on mine.

Good luck and let us know,
Rick '94 855

When I lift off the throttle on my T-5R, sometimes it seems to hang just a bit before decreasing. Is this a dirty throttle body result or...?

That would be what I check first. Take off the clamp that holds the hose from the airbox to the throttle body, and clean the varnish/carbon/funk from the rotating valve flap (metal part that rotates), as well as the sides of the chamber. I cleaned mine front and back with a toothbrush and carb cleaner. After it was put back together I did get a code that I had to clear (it may have been my coolant temp. sensor code since I changed my t-stat too), but no more problems since then. BTW it is also a good time to clean/replace/remove the flame trap if you have one.

Happy motoring,

I have a 99' S70 na. I was poking around the ol' engine the other day and checke dout the throttle body. I noticed some build up but not a lot considering the car is fairly new still.
If I wanted to clean the throttle body out, do I need to take the whole thing off? or just the clamp and scrub in their.

I just scrubbed mine with it on. I've heard of people with plans to remove the throttle body for cleaning, but this seems very unneccesary to me. My '94 855 na did not have a very dirty TB at all, perhaps due to a nearly completely clogged flame trap.

later,
Rick

I'm a little confused about what the flame trap looks like.
