Cost breakdown for OEM dual exhust V70 AWD R V70-XC70 1999

Well I took the plunge. I put the dual exhuast from the 2000 V70R on my 99 V70R. I havn't done any performance tests but it looks great and is not that expensive.

Here is the brake down in Canadian dollars

Part Number

9470703 Dual exhuast assembly $303.45
9470989 Steel end tips X 2 $156.48
9484490 Pastic bumpber frame $ 11.08

Total parts $471.01

It took my mechanic at Swedish Motors here in Toronto 1 hour ($78)to do the job. The dealer quoted 1.5 hours, don't belive them.

Total project price $549.01 + tax ($350ish US)

Compared to IPD who's system costs $1432 ($895 US) + shipping + insatllation

this is a great option.

I think this will work on all AWD V70s not just the R

HP increase with OEM dual exhuast V70-XC70 1999

Today I took some measurements

I used a G-tech performace meter for the tests. these are well regarded as being very accurate.

I did five runs and averaged them out, with and without the dual exhaust.

With the the dual exhuast from the 2000 V70R on my 99 V70R I am reading an average increase of 8%

186hp without dual

201hp with dual

The G-tech measures power at the wheels not dyno tested HP, thats why the numbers are lower than the Volvo specs for the car (247hp). I also did not have the exact wiehgt of the car so I inputted it on the ligt side and this will result in lower numbers but the % will be the same.

Anyone have pictures of the OEM dual exhaust? I'd like to compare to the IPD exhaust.

Larry

I have posted a few pictures of the exhaust.

The first shot

http://www3.sympatico.ca/jnevans/850rear.jpg

is the rear of the car. The original picture has the rear of the car in shadow. I attempted to lighten the picture so you can see the finished effect, but it is pretty grainy.

Next

http://www3.sympatico.ca/jnevans/exhaust.jpg

is a picture of the underside, with all the grime left over from the winter. The pipe that joins the two outlets is a little difficult to see, so I added a line for orientation.

Finally

http://www3.sympatico.ca/jnevans/850drside.jpg

shows a shot looking forward at the driver's side rear wheel. The inlet is on the driver's side. The curious thing is, all of the sound of the exhaust emanates from the driver's side, but exhaust vapour comes out of the passenger side.

Cost breakdown for OEM dual exhust V70 AWD R V70-XC70 1999

Steve

The price was almost identical (slightly higher) when I had a dual exhaust installed on my car. The Volvo dealer did not discount the exhaust, so it was more expensive. My bill was as follows:

9470703 dual exhaust $374.85
9470988 tips X 2 $148.12
bumper trim $9.10
torch supplies $5.00
1 hour labour $69.00

total bill $596.97.

There must be a good many single outlet exhausts accumulating in garages. I know - I have one. What do you think of the sound of the exhaust? It is a bit louder than I expected.

Cost breakdown for OEM dual exhust V70 AWD R V70-XC70 1999

Hello,

Curious, I have just ordered the muffler assembly and tail pipe. I have a 99 V70R with the single outlet. I only ordered one tail pipe, I assume I can reuse my existing tail pipe. Anyone have any info if the tail pipes are different from 99-00???

Any help appreciated!

I am sure that the iPd system is superior to what you put in your car, hence the higher price. Their system is a performance SPORT exchaust system that will probably add a bit more HP, one of the reasons it is also a little louder under load..

Yannis, I couldn't agree more. Now that I've installed TME/iPD exhaust in my '00 R, I won't go back. At least in my case it totally changed how my car sounded, from pretty much nothing to a mellow rumble. And that's what I like. At 2500rpm it starts to sound so sweeeet... And that banging sound that you hear while shifting... Incredible!

Too bad that I don't have any numbers to give you about added hp etc.

I'm getting my ECU upgraded and before that I will dyno my car. It should have 265hp original and I haven't got any other mods yet than the catback, so that should tell us something, right?

I really doubt the iPD system is much better. It may be slightly, but not worth the extra $1200 it would cost. Neither system is a true dual system anyway, just split into two outlets. I would be interested to see if anyone installed the iPD without other upgrades and measured any HP increase. I will measure mine tomorrow and post the stats versus the original exhaust. Did I mention that it looks KILLER.

Beezer- that's a KILLER price. Now, you can take the savings over IPDs system and get a chip and you will be a "real killer"(he,he,he,he)!

Wish I could. IPD doesn't have an ECU for my car yet. It's in the works.

At least TME has ECU upgrades for 99/00 models. And if I'm not mistaken, iPD is selling TME's upgrades...

BTW, I have '00 V70R AWD and I have upgraded my oem dual exhaust to TME's (iPD) exhaust. If you guys wanna see pictures, I can go and take some for you.
