Mi ECU es su ECU, IPD vs. SAM S70 1998

I'm almost ready to take the ECU plunge. IPD most likely, but the SAM price ($462) is very tempting!

Can anyone think of a reason that I would want MY original ECU to be programmed instead of someone else's 'swapped out' ECU?? The core charge isn't a problem, the downtime is a bit of a drag, but workable if my ECU is more valuable to me.

Would I be getting someone else's problems, I don't know what they would have done to it, and IPD says that it's got to be in good condition for them to get their core charge back so....

Also any thoughts on IPD vs. SAM?

I don't see much advantage ($400 worth at least) in the flash programming.

Well I would call engstrom motorsports and get the BSR reprogram. If not I can tell you that you will not be impressed with the IPD program. Ive been in two cars with the IPD/TME so-called upgraded ECU and was not at all impressed. There program is weak. Ive driven a handful of T5's with the PES program and its very impressive but still I give top honors to the BSR stage 3 kit. Stage 1 kit comes with the programmed ECU and K&N type cone filter for $495. Give Engstrom a call. Im not sure about he SAM program only ordered out of the country once and got burned, never again.

PES is supposed to have the highest performance ECU for Volvo. Don't go with IPD.

"highest performance"? Like what? More HP? Getting the most HP from a chip does not guarantee the best value for your $$$. Even delivery of power and reliability are the priorities.

Like IPD gives you a great value, $1000. I would definately try for PES before going with the IPD/TME.

Amanda-

I had the same concerns as you did. The only problem with accepting an ECU is the hardware. If you decide to purchase one from IPD inspect the prongs and exterior case. If it's in good condition, it' likely to last. However, the internal hardware is difficult to inspect, so you really never know...

From what I understand, the ECU is entirely reprogramed with software from IPD or SAM. One thing you may want to consider when purchasing is the customer service aspect. IPD is known for standing behind their product and they provide excellent customer service with great techs. Their prices may be higher, but you pay for what you get.

I purchased the ECU upgrade last week from IPD and I'm completly satisified with the peformance and customer service. Good luck with your decision and happy driving.

Why not save some money and install a G-Valve from www.dawesdevices.com. Check it out. You want more boost, right? Do you have an a-pillar mounted boost gauge?

G-Valve S70 1998

G-Valve? I only saw a boost controller, but anyway, a boost controller isn't going to give me 40-50 HP, is it?! In addition the torque increase is a must! Thanks though!
