I have a 2000 S40 and have had to replace the headlamp bulb twice already. The service man told me that Volvo knows their bulbs are a problem and they are working on the problem. Has anybody heard of this problem?

    Yes, it's a problem...I turned off my drl's a long time ago. No lights, no problem.

    Now all I have to do is hope that no one runs into me.

    Wes, Bob is correct! The dealer should know about it and have the parts...I had the same problem so bad that I had shut off the DRL's! Since the fix, no more premature burnouts...plus they should also start you off with new bulbs as well1 My dealer iniatially balked on the fix...but then I guess Volvo squared them away!     I've changed the headlights 4-5 times already on my '00 S40. Volvo supposedly knows about this problem but I wouldn't hold my breathe waiting for a fix. Other problems with this car have been brakes and bushings. The next time the headlights go, I'm going to ask for a couple of extras so I can change them myself.

      There is a fix. Has been available for about a year. It involves wiring a resistor into the central module under the dash, and replaceing both bulbs. The resistor prolongs bulb life. Ask the dealer to check tech net notes on Vadis. The part numbers and instructions are there. If they can't or wont find it, find another dealer.

        what is vadis? I would do it myself!!

        I didn't know about this and installed HID lights, 6000 miles later one burned off!! waiting for the stock ones to burn off th have the dealer fix it!!!
