2002 V70 climate control problems V70-XC70 2002

I have a 2002 V70 non-turbo with automatic climate control. It is automatic allright! It comes on in the middle of the day, in the middle of the night or just whenever it feels like it!!! The car is turned off and the keys are out! Has anyone had this same problem?? It is a real ghost and I am afraid it is gonna strand momma and baby with a dead battery. Dealer can't figure it out! Any suggestions? Thanks ahead.

The reply sounds interesting and very logical. I have an 850 T5 Turbo 1994. Does anyone know if this car has electronic climate control ?

The reply is 100% accurate...that function is called "afterblow effect".

Yes, a '95 850 Turbo should have electronic climate control but it is not equipped with the software to generate this "afterblow" effect. This feature started with cars made on a Px platform, namely the 1999 S80s (and on) and continuing with the redesigned V70s (MY2001 and newer) along with the 2001 and newer S60s.

If you are referring to the interior climate fan motor coming on, this is a normal condition. If the AC is operated for more than 5 minutes during a drive, the computer will activate the fan appx 45 min or an hour after the key is turned off and will keep it on for up to 15 minutes. This is to help dry the evaproator and keep mold and mildew from building up in the car's air ducts.(Musty smell complaints) Your dealer shoud know about this function.

    Hope this helps.
